oh man im listening to phantom of the opera now! "prima dona" is really really nice =) =) =) okay i finally have some time to update my blog already. these few days have been spent on doing something called a Mini Paper. this week is like lectures all the way. I took Biology, Chemistry, Computer, compulsory Humanities lecture and got special guest lecturers talking on random topics. then i also had the chance to speak with some of the people here. i had difficulty speaking with some of them cos i dun speak in their accent. haha but i think i try to talk in accent very weird. i dunno. tmr will be be the official start of research already! i'll be going over to Northeastern University to use their lab facilities there. need to take subway and walk a short distance to reach there! haha. my project mentor is called Dr. Mansoor Amiji, and he assigned an undergraduate student called Padmadja to guide me. My research area will be on nanomedicine. So its like adding a protein to a nanoparticle such that it will be taken in by pancreatic cancer cells. it had smth to do with the p53, and using the GFP (Green Fluorescent Protein) as a study model too. im not very sure so have to go read up! hai hope things go on smoothly and... quickly. im just gonna dump myself into research and hope that time flies super duper fast! so before i know it it will be last day le! =) me and Dan! His parents are from China and this picture shows us during the humanities lecture. He fell asleep today during every lecture. ><  Japanese Food stall at the Student Centre. They sell Teriyaki Chicken and Beef served on either rice or fried rice. I ate it for lunch/dinner at least 4 times in 5 days already. It's the closest substitute to food in Singapore that i can find here.
Guest lecturer Jeremy Wolfe! He is a very funny and interesting speaker. He gives speeches impromptu all the time. That day he spoke about our sense organs. Here he turns on his laptop to show us the dancing chickens experiment. Apparently one of the chickens "broke apart", but over eyes could not detect it. Well, for most of us it is the case.
Our humanities lecturer - Lance Rhoades! I totally didnt understand the lecture on "the Last of the Mohicans" at all. Neither did i read the book. >< Our biology lecturer - Katherine Carter! She's very nice and goes slowly so can understand! She taught DNA on the first day, then Apoptosis, memory formation and aging for the next few days! quite interesting! but again some terms dun understand. Me with 2 turkish students - (From left; Bilgehan, Yasin, me!) They told me they like Singapore students cos we speak English slowly so they can understand XD Bilgehan supports Galatasaray while Yasin supports Feherbahce! hello hello!! im in my room at MIT! just settled down after like more than 24 hrs of flight. had to take a plane ride from singapore to tokyo, tokyo to chicago, then chicago to boston. X/ during the flight from chicago to boston, the plane met with some problem, so had to fly back to chicago. and our arrival time was delayed. once we reached the airport at boston, there was no one to fetch us! so we had to call our own shuttle van to take us to MIT. haha. we reached the place like 10pm. so its like 10am in singapore already. spent the time just now exploring the whole dormitory. the whole place is quite cool, got a lot of facilities in the lobby. and my room is nice! yeah and now it's 2.54am here! have to wake up at 8am ltr to go for breakfast! shall upload more photos tmr! here are some below! they are just taken today! =( sigh. im leaving in a few hours time. but i really really really do not feel like leaving singapore. hai perhaps i shall go there and enjoy the experience. but 6 weeks is super super long =( will be back on 5 august. 2335 hrs Monday, June 18, 2007
okay! shall finally update! sorry to YXH la! i was doing a lot of last minute shopping the past few days! like bought a new luggage cos current luggage very old and smelly le. and oso a suit for the trip. very ex = s today had last piano lesson before i fly off! i think my teacher's pissed la! cos always busy with such stuff then have to stop lessons. but today he said i played well! yay yay yay! =) =) and after lesson he drove me off to the mrt, and when i stepped out of the car, he pat me on the shoulder and said "good luck ar!" heh then i was super happy! =D oh then after that go to peggy's house to do PW. although we quite slack liddat keep talking about random stuff, and peggy's com keep hanging due to virus. we still managed to complete quite a lot of stuff! now just have to EXPAND the GPP. haha! yay go go PW A1! okay so now update on the YXH GATHERING! *goes back into time -spirals spirals-* haha this whole thing is very random. even i forgot how this Yang Xie Hui (羊协会） came up. but i kinda became a member and uhh got this weird name which i shall not say XD heh went to takashimaya seoul garden for lunch buffet! price rather ok! but very long nv go seoul garden le! and din noe that there's so many things to eat! and i din play with the eggs la! just cook the meat together with the eggs ma X/ . yeah! ate until very full! haha then during the meal we keep like teasing songsim cos he's the youngest! and partly because got generation gap la (dai4 gou1). but seryang keep teasing him la! very bad but quite funny! XD and it's like every sentence there will be smth to tease abt songsim. hahaha cant stand it. but hope songsim not offended or anything = s after lunch we like walk here and there! walk to heeren the place which sells random stuff! me and seryang bought shoelaces! i had to buy cos my old shoelace is like grey and torn. bought one that fitted my shoe colour, brown! =) after that yuanyin and grace left! so me, seryang and songsim went to cine. went to this quiet spot at basement 1 foodcourt where we changed our shoelaces! very funny and stupid! XD but lucky no one's watching us! and we walked past this crepe ice cream shop, and we decided to go in to take a look. the 3 of us ordered this chocolate crepe ice cream which is delicious! =p yeah! so that's all! i blogged about it le! but i have no photos leh! u all wanna see go seryang's, yuanyin's, grace's or songsim's blogs! they have photos there! XD i hate uploading photos onto blogger! X( * ooh that that reminds me, i havent finished uploading the photos for OCIP YINCHUAN yet. rahh. okay shall upload another day! oh man! 1 am le! gotta go sleep! got comm meeting later on in the day! haha! im back from china for quite some time le! its time i update le! just got my photos uploaded onto the com too! OCIP YINCHUAN. it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. im really really glad to have made a difference in the lives of those kids at 华英希望小学. they are really innocent. i must say that they are quite different from singapore kids. in singapore u see children who are 4 to 5, playing gameboy, handphones and stuff. in yinchuan, these kids will be satisfied by just simply playing with a ball, hopscotch, many many more. so mainly, while we were there. for monday to friday we spent our mornings and afternoons at the school. taught english, handicraft, and computer lessons. and painted 2 murals. i was quite shocked when i first arrived at the school. cos they have a tv in every classroom. they have a computer lab, but with only arnd 10 working computers. and they even have satelite tv! i had a rather bad experience with their toilet but it is one thing i have to get used to it! then friday it was “六一”国际儿童节！so the school had a celebration for the students. it was like a lot of speeches at the start, then prize giving for top students. after which was performances le! the whole OCIP group sat under the sun for nearly 2 hours i think! we put up 2 performances for the students too! SHAVA SHAVA (indian dance XD) and APOLLO FAC DANCE. i think they really liked it a lot. haha! then for saturday to sunday it was our R&R days. we went to the OASIS GARDEN, which was to the north of YINCHUAN. that was for saturday. had camel rides, sand ski and go-karting! the whole place is like very deserty! bought A LOT of souvenirs there. okays! then for sunday! we went to HE LAN SHAN (贺兰山）, and then visited a WOLFBERRY FARM, before going to the city district to have shopping! haha it was super random. i think i spent a lot there. bought a lot of shirts, 1 fake adidas bag, 1 dvd, 1 book, 2 CD collections (chopin and tchaikovsky!! =) ), 1 book. aye thats all i can rmb alrd. OOH and before shopping the teachers and miss tan (from YMCA de) treated us to steamboat lunch! they had this sliced mutton. its like once u dip into the hot water, after a few seconds it wud be cooked that kind. and we ordered 3 big plates of 水饺, and i big plate of 锅贴. i guessed there must be at least 30 on each plate. i ate at least 20 pieces i guess! was SUPER DUPER FULL. haha! ><>that following monday we went back to the school. it was rather sad cos it will be our last day there and some of us were quite close to the students le. there were lessons as usual. but there was a lot of cleaning up to do. when we were about to leave, the kids all flocked towards us, asking for our autographs. we took pictures with them too. haha. hai but when we left the place it was sad, really sad. the next day, we visited this school which was rather near the hotel. the facilities and conditions there were much mcuh better. me, brian, ian, weiliang and guojie went into this class to take a look at the lesson, BUT THEN the teacher decided to just throw the whole class to us! >< we uhh taught math (since they were having math class then), and some random english. soon we ran out of things to teach and we told them jokes. yeah, those lame ones! it was super funny! XD after that school visit, it was travelling travelling! and we're back to singapore! =) okays! photos are below! the more important ones! i cant believe i took 1.4gb worth of photos!
